Healing Spring and Pool cleaned up in Bedmond
A joint team of 14 volunteers from The Ark Community Church, Bedmond and St Lawrence Church of England, Abbots Langley waded in with their wellies and secateurs to clean up Bedmond Village School’s pond and nature area on Bank Holiday Monday.
The local churches came together as part of a project called ‘The Noise’ which aims to demonstrate the local church’s commitment to both faith and action in the community. |

The team cleared out the natural spring and pond and opened up access through heavy undergrowth to a delightful spinney attached to the school grounds to be used as a nature area for the children in the Summer.

‘We believe that the school pond and natural spring could well be the original healing pool seen in early Edwardian pictures of Bedmond and used by Breakspear himself as healing waters.’ Says Bruce Oliver, pastor of the Ark Community Church, who meet locally at Bedmond Village Hall.
‘From historical maps and archives the position seems to fit with Breakspear’s back garden. I am interested to know if this pond is actually the ‘Blue Pool’ referred to for its healing properties for eyes.’
Bruce Oliver.
